Conder's Coating Products Team has risen to a challenge recently posed by one of its customers.
Conder was asked to produce high quality phenolic resin coated fabric rings (SRBF). In itself, not easy, however the customer required a very thick wall dimension at 110mm.
These rings are used in mechanical and electromechanical applications where machined parts require strength, low water absorption, dimensional stability and/or electrical insulation properties. The high quality of these rings allows intricate features to be machined.
Typical applications include:
- insulating sleeves or bushings
- insulation at low and medium voltages
- fine toothed gears
- cams
- ship bearings
- seal retaining rings
- Geneva wheels
- components for use at cryogenic temperatures
In this case the customer wanted the parts to be coated and manufactured using their own coated and scoured cotton fabric which they supplied to Conder. Conder has the capability to coat the raw fabric should a customer choose. Conder then wound the 110m thick wall thickness tube using the 730mm dia mandrel, one of Conder's extensive range of mandrels, which produced a finished 950mm outside diameter dimension. Once this tube had been finished the rings were then sliced from the tube at 90mm thickness.

With our recent work on Epoxy Resin Coated Paper and now Resin Bonded Fabric, there are more ways in which we can support our existing customers and hopefully find new ones. These SRBF rings were quite a challenge, one which we have been able to meet. We're looking forward to our next one".
