More than 97 percent of the nearly 1.4 billion cubic kilometres of water on earth is sea water - non potable water. Most of the remaining freshwater is permanently frozen in the poles and glaciers. The remaining, freely usable freshwater amounts to only 0.3 percent of the world's total water resources.
